Winter 2016

mark-c.-reed-200Dear Friends,

My first semester at Saint Joseph’s University confirmed what I already knew: Hawk Hill is a place like no other and it has everything to do with our enthusiastic, engaged community.

Our students love their SJU experience. They immerse themselves in the Jesuit way of proceeding and support our mission at the highest level. Bright, ambitious and involved, they always amaze me with their maturity and wisdom. As they develop into loyal and proud alumni, I have no doubt they will become leaders and “doers” in their fields and communities.

The University’s excellent faculty is challenging, engaging and creative, committed to the teacher-scholar model, along with their research, scholarly activities and service. Our staff is dedicated and invested in the University’s success. The Jesuit community has welcomed me with open arms and continues to be a great source of inspiration, support and counsel.

None of this would be possible if not for the steadfast and unwavering support of Saint Joseph’s benefactors – our alumni, parents and friends. As my relationships deepen with the alumni and benefactors who continue to support this University so generously, I grow more impressed by the loyalty and dedication so many have for Saint Joseph’s.

This edition of the President’s Report explores the myriad ways your support aids the University in living its mission. I’m proud to present to you stories about the role Saint Joseph’s volunteers played in Pope Francis’ historic visit to Philadelphia; the interfaith dialogues the Institute for Jewish-Catholic Relations has facilitated for nearly 50 years; the Ignatian College Connection making higher education a reality for under-resourced students; parents mentoring young alumni and assisting them as they secure employment; and the immeasurable impact naming Saint Joseph’s University as a beneficiary of a planned gift will have on students for decades.

I appreciate your partnership as we move Saint Joseph’s University forward with a constant focus on our Jesuit mission, academic excellence and the student experience.
